Covering 912 km2 and over 22,000 residents, The Barossa Council is located 70 km northeast of Adelaide, in South Australia. The Barossa Valley is Australia's premiere wine region, and an internationally renowned wine, tourism and food destination.
The Barossa Council provides a wide range of services to the community, including:
Animal management, citizenship ceremonies and Australia Day awards, waste management, community wastewater management, environmental health, fire safety, building and planning assessment, development control, recreational facilities such as sporting facilities and ovals, parks, playgrounds, reserves, and recreation centre, community facilities such as halls and libraries, aged care, volunteer services, liquor licences, road and transport infrastructure and maintenance, stormwater management, footpath construction and maintenance, roadside vegetation management, dry areas and road safety control, parking and traffic control, public lighting, cemeteries, community transport, home assistance, other licenses and permits, tourism and economic development support.
In addition, Council maintains a Visitor Information Centre in Tanunda, a caravan park in Nuriootpa and a wide variety of other community facilities.
Council acts as custodian for over $190 million in community infrastructure and assets, including 334 km of sealed and 628 km of unsealed roads.
The Barossa Council consists of one Mayor and eleven Councillors. Elections take place every 4 years, with the most recent election having taken place in November 2010. The current Council is:

Council's primary offices are located in Nuriootpa colocated with the main library, with works depots located in Williamstown and Tanunda. Council branch offices and library branches are located in Mt Pleasant, Lyndoch, Tanunda, and Angaston.
